If you’re one of those who finishes work late, good news!

Having a late dinner is now an option again after the government announced that restaurants and shops can operate till midnight starting today (November 24th).

During his daily press briefing yesterday (November 23rd), Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the National Security Council (MKN) agreed to the new operational hours amid the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), following complaints from the public and restaurateurs' associations.

“It appears the earlier 10pm mandatory closing time had a major effect, especially on Muslims who finish their Ishak prayers and want to eat, as they arrive at 9pm but must leave by 10pm,” he explained.

The new ruling also applies to convenience stores, sundry goods stores as well as petrol stations.

Previously, eateries and retail outlets were only allowed to operate till 10pm, after the SOPs for public areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were updated for the CMCO.
