Public Health Malaysia (PHM) wants Malaysians to help curb the spread of COVID-19 by not holding any form of gatherings, despite the eased restrictions under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) effective yesterday (December 7th).
In a post on its official Facebook account, PHM cited what happened with the Enggor cluster in Perak, and how 332 new infections were recorded from the cluster when it emerged and spread into the community last month, just from a family gathering.

Another post highlighted exactly what you should and shouldn’t do:
- Do not host ‘kenduri-kendara’ (feasts), avoid family gatherings, there is no need for social gatherings, avoid reunions, birthday parties and ‘tahlil’ events. Stop planning for any gathering.
- Siblings should take turns returning to their hometowns and to postpone trips if they feel unwell.
- If you have been in contact with a positive case, consider not returning to your hometown for two weeks.

On November 28th, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that there were a few clusters reported as the result of social gatherings, which included the Enggor cluster, the Indah Mas cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, as well as the Inai and Jambul clusters in Sabah.
“As we all know, COVID-19 is transmitted from one individual to another through respiratory droplets; when a person coughs, sneezes, talks and in close contact. If the physical distance between an individual and another individual is less than one meter, the risk of infection is higher.
“It is very important for us to do our part to protect ourselves, family and the community from infection. Just be mindful of your surroundings,” he said.
Inter-state and inter-district travel is now allowed nationwide without having to obtain a police permit, except for areas placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
All vehicles are also allowed to carry passengers according to seating capacity, and police will no longer carry out roadblocks, but will focus on SOP compliance.
Malaysia reported 1,600 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, with over 11,000 cases still active.
