budding news - ganja plants found in luxury kl condominium

The Star reported that during a raid in Kuala Lumpur recently, authorities hit a pot (of gold) when they found ganja plants being cultivated in a luxury condominium in Mont Kiara.

According to Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd, two men and one woman aged between 24 and 32 years old, were arrested thanks to intelligence gathering and public tip-offs. The three will be remanded until next Monday to help in the investigation.

Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil added that police managed to seize 54 pots of ganja plants, ganja leaves weighing 2.6kg and 48 ganja seeds with about RM1.21mil in total value, an amount which would have let the suspects live a pretty (k)ushy life had their plans not gone up in smoke.

“Investigation found that they have been growing it for six months hydroponically, a gardening technique without soil in that residential unit,” he said.

Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil said police also seized a Toyota Vios, and added that the investigation was being carried out under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for cannabis cultivation and Section 39B of the same law for drug trafficking.

Bluntly put, they just may be in for a pretty heavy sentence.
