Almost 30 houses in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan were destroyed due to heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms, affecting over 130 people.

According to Gemas Fire and Rescue station chief, Mohd Farid Abu Bakar said the incident, which lasted nearly half an hour from 5:30 pm on Sunday (February 20th), impacted the residential area in Felda Jelai 1 to 4.
“Roofs were blown away by the storm and strong winds, and vehicles were damaged by fallen trees,” he said as reported by BERNAMA.
One family had to be relocated to Felda Jelai 1 Quarters as their house was severely damaged by the storm.

“Some victims are temporarily staying at relatives’ homes while others did not move because the damage wasn’t too serious. They were also concerned about being exposed to the COVID-19 virus if they moved,” he continued.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department had earlier issued a warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms in several states including Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Perak and Kelantan.
