Beware of scams, guys!
A 62-year-old retired civil servant lost over RM343,000 after being cheated in a loan scam.

The State Commercial Crime Investigation Department, chief Supt Aibee Ab Ghani said the victim decided to apply for a RM200,000 loan after coming across an advertisement on social media last Thursday (22 October).
In a statement, he said: “The loan was to pay for a non-governmental organisation-related programme that the victim had organised. After making the application, a woman called him to ask for his personal documents to enable them to process it.”
Supt Aibee added that the women then called the victim and told him that his application was successful and then he was asked to make payments purportedly for processing, insurance, and agreement fees before he received the money.
He reported that the victim then transferred the money via 71 transactions into several bank accounts from 29 September until 24 October, and raised the amount by borrowing from friends and relatives, including selling his car.

The victim later made an official police report after he realised that he had been cheated, “The victim only realised that he had been cheated when he asked for money from his children who told him that he had been scammed.”
The case is being investigated under section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
