The victim and the suspect got further acquainted through phone calls and messages via WhatsApp.

Even though they had never met each other, the suspect had managed to borrow money from the victim for various reasons on seven occasions totalling RM52,300.

He said that the suspect even promised to marry the victim.

“On January 31st, after the last transaction, the suspect did not respond despite the victim trying to contact him, with the suspect also blocking the victim’s phone number.

“The victim realized that she had been deceived and lodged a report at the Kuantan Police Station on Thursday (February 3rd),” he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for Cheating.

Scammers are very good at what they do, and they can be very good at convincing you that they are who they say they are.
