Kedah Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr. Mohd Hayati Othman confirmed that the hospital would continue its operations.

“All departments, including the emergency department remain open, except for certain wards that need to be closed for sanitation. However, for those who need to do follow-up treatment at specialist clinics, appointment dates and schedules will be arranged,” he said.

Dr. Hayati responded to the viral message that has been going around claiming that HSAH is closed after 100 of its staff were infected with the COVID-19 Delta variant, which was originally detected in India, and Beta variant, which was detected in South Africa.

The message also claimed that there were instructions from the State Health Department for the hospital to only accept and treat dire emergency cases due to the variant transmissions.

Hayati also urged the public to not worry and that the situation has been handled by the state Health Department and District Health Office.
