In Malaysia, paying your income tax is required by law depending on your annual taxable income.
And if you have recently started your job and have no idea how anything works, maybe this article could help you! However, you should first check whether you are an eligible taxpayer.
According to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), or also known as Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), you MUST first register for a tax file if they earn an annual employment income of RM34,000, after EPF deduction.
If your annual employment income exceeds that amount, you must first register with LHDN as a taxpayer and then sign up for e-Filing in LHDN's online platform MyTax. Lucky us, LHDN has made it easy for us to complete the entire registration process online, so have a look at the steps you should take when registering for income tax in Malaysia for the first time!
1. Applying Income Tax Online For 2022
Head on over to mytax.hasil.gov.my and click on the e-Daftar option if you have never filed your taxes before. The next step is to complete the online form and upload some documents as support.
The paperwork must be printed out and brought to your nearest LHDN branch where you will receive a first-time login PIN.
2. Login to MyTax
Visit the MyTax website and choose the First Time Login option. Remember that you need your PIN to navigate around the website. Create a new password for your account and make sure that it is secure!
And now you can start your e-Filing!
Now that you’re ready to start filing your income tax, remember to review your personal details, and you can even change some of them if you need to, especially if you recently updated your passport or if you’ve gotten married.
Also, don’t forget to declare your purchases from last year that provide tax relief. Unlike previous years, the new e-Filing form will provide you with additional information on each relief. It also tells you the maximum amount of relief you can claim under each category.
The final step is to declare that all the information provided is true. You will then be asked to sign the submission by providing your identification number and MyTax password… and THAT’S IT!
It may be intimidating at first, but filing for your income tax is actually so easy.
Hope this helps!
