Did you know that only 1.75% of Malaysians have visited the National Arts Gallery, and on average, Malaysians only visit art galleries once a year?
These stats was what pushed CENDANA, the Cultural Economy Development Agency, to launch SH/FT - A Visual Contemporary Art Exhibition. The exhibition is aimed at showcasing our homegrown talents, and to cultivate a new generation of art lovers in the country.
SH/FT, which aims to explore the theme of change surrounding identity, pop culture and technology, will feature 176 artworks by 42 emerging Malaysian artists.
The artwork, which was selected by independent curators, are portrayed through various mediums, including painting, audio visual, collages, woodwork and sculpture. The artwork also touches on contemporary topics that are much talked about these days, including mass consumerism, mental health, the female body, and the nature of personal relationships.
Entry to SH/FT is free and open to the public. You can check out the exhibition until August 11th at Black Box and White Box, Publika.
