New Twitter Settings Allow You To Filter Out Unnecessary Comments

Ever just wanted to have a meaningful conversation with someone on Twitter without having someone else who has nothing to do with it come in and kacau you with an unnecessary reply or comment?

Well, now you can!

Twitter has been testing new settings to give people more control over the conversations they start, and now, these settings will be available to everyone, so unwanted replies don’t get in the way of meaningful conversations.

Basically, before you Tweet, you can now choose who can reply with three options:

  1. everyone (standard Twitter, and the default setting)
  2. only people you follow
  3. only people you mention

Keep in mind that people you’ve blocked from replying will still be able to view, Retweet, Retweet with Comment, share, and like these Tweets.

Since Twitter started testing these new settings in May, respondents have shown that they’re now more open to discussing sensitive topics on the platform, as they feel they’re more protected from spam and abuse.

It’s also understood that problematic repliers aren't finding another way to kacau you – these settings prevented an average of three potentially abusive replies while only adding one potentially abusive Retweet with Comment.

Twitter is meant for public conversation, and so while giving people more control over who replies to their Tweet, others still need to be able to see various perspectives.

It is also working on making it easier for people to find the entire discussion of whatever topic through Retweets with Comments.

Keep it productive on Twitter, guys! And if you’ve got nothing meaningful to say, it’s probably best to stay silent.
