Food wastage is a serious problem in Malaysia.
Earlier this month, SWCorp Malaysia (Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation) stated that 24% of food waste is classified as still edible, that amounts to three meals a day for 2,970,000 people a day!
Therefore, Nando’s Malaysia is partnering up with KECHARA Soup Kitchen, The Lost Food Project, Malaysia Relief Agency Sabah, Mutiara Foodbank, Kita Infak, Lalamove and others to channel excess food safely to communities in need by expanding their ‘Chicken with a Heart’ community outreach with the ‘No Chuckin’ Our Chicken’ initiative.
The initial roll out of No Chuckin’ Our Chicken will benefit over 25 homes and local charities across the Klang Valley, Johor Bharu, Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.
Having previously worked with Food Donation Connection (FDC), a global organization that manages food donation programmes, Nando’s has established SOPs which ensure the quality, hygiene and longevity of all their donated food items.
From May to August this year, the Chicken with a Heart outreach program has delivered RM135,000 worth of food and supplies to local communities including frontliners, students, the homeless and the poor.
No Chuckin’ Our Chicken now joins Gift-It on Nando’s roster of permanent community outreach programmes.
If you would like to contribute to the outreach programme, you may donate either a ¼ chicken, ½ chicken or whole chicken through Gift-It, Nando’s member loyalty donation rewards programme through Nando's app.
You can also play a role by preventing food wastage at home.
As our mothers always say, finish your rice!
