Malaysia Expected To Be The Second Most Visited Country This Lunar New Year

Expect a huge crowd of visitors this Lunar New Year as we're expected to be the second most visited country among Asians for this year’s festive season!

According to Agoda, Malaysia is expected to be the second most visited country for travelers across Asia for this coming Chinese New Year, with travelers mainly arriving from Singapore. Close to the Lion City, Johor Bahru attracts the most Singaporean tourists alongside our beloved capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia will also receive many Indonesian travelers this Lunar New Year with many of our neighbours flocking to popular cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands, Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuching.

As for Malaysian travelers, we rang in the new year by enjoying the serene beaches and happening night life just across our shores. Most Malaysians have chosen Thailand as its top destination this coming Chinese New Year break too, with its top destination cities being Hat Yai, Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket, and Koh Lipe.

Overall, Asian travelers picked Japan, specifically Tokyo as their top Lunar New Year destination. Tokyo, Bangkok and Taipei are the top three destinations for Asian travelers to celebrate the Lunar New Year, with Tokyo steadily climbing the ranks from third place in 2018 to the top spot, while Taipei moves to third place.

Taiwan is also a key destination this year, with four of the market’s cities featuring in the top ten list, including Taipei (#3), Taichung (#4), Kaohsiung (#6) and Tainan (#9).  Other favorite destinations to welcome the Lunar New Year also include Seoul (#7) and Chiang Mai (#10).

The Lunar New Year is all about spending quality time with family and enjoying scrumptious cuisines during reunion dinners. It’s no wonder that Malaysia, along with Japan and Thailand, that offer an array of mouth-watering treats, captivating tourist sites and rich cultural experiences, secured top overall destinations for Asian travelers!
