Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we all fantasized about working from the comfort of our home…

No traffic jams, which meant we can sleep a little longer, and also we have extra time to spend with the family and to do house chores! Yeah, it’s great that we get to stay at home, but it can also be harder to focus on doing the actual work!

Whether it’s the pile of laundry that suddenly looks more appealing than your pile of worksheets, or a quick one-hour binge of that new series you just started watching... staying productive at home can take a little extra effort.

Also, not being around people can quickly become a downer.

Here are some tips on how to stay productive while working from home, according to TIME!

#1 Location

Find a dedicated and comfortable place that is strictly for work only that you can leave when you’re off the clock. That means get off the couch and definitely get out of bed!

#2 Find A Buddy

Being away from people can be hard, especially when you used to be surrounded by your co-workers at the office. You might find it easier to be productive without your chatty co-workers, however, social interactions, even with co-workers can alleviate feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Try to fill the socializing gap while working remotely. Find a colleague you can hit up when you’re feeling the need to chat with someone!

#3 Plan, plan, plan!

When working alone, you should keep a more structured daily schedule than usual.

Your schedule can include multiple breaks throughout the day (because, why not!), either to play with your dog, or take a quick walk around your house or grab the daily mail. Trust us, you will be more productive if you take quick little breaks in between your work!

#4 Use different communication tools while working

Communication with your co-workers goes beyond the emails! Other digital tools can better replicate the in-person office experience and provide more clear information.

Better communication while working remotely can help maintain relationships with your colleagues as well as your managers and direct reports, so just because you’re not in the same room, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a meeting or work discussions via video call!

So, don’t stress! Remember that it’s always better to work smart than to work hard!
