Friendship is truly one of the most beautiful things in life but sometimes, that too can be toxic. If you think you’re not too happy in a friends circle, it’s probably because there is a certain level of tension, either caused by you or your friends.

Here are some ways you can identify if you’re caught in an unhealthy friendship.
1. You Always Give More Than What You Receive
Giving doesn’t always have to be materialistic. If you always find yourself prioritising your friends’ needs but they’re not free to even return the smallest favour, you’re in a toxic friendship. You don’t have to leave the friendship right away, but you can always confront them and communicate with them to come to an understanding.
If the cycle repeats way too many times, then… you know what to do.
2. You Always Try To Be In Their Good Books
You shouldn’t have to change yourself for anyone to like you. If your friends are only willing to spend time with you when you’re in a good mood, then it’s unhealthy in the long run.
Think for yourself, do you always try to be your best self when you’re with certain friends?

3. You Are Always The One To Make The First Move
Do you ever find yourself being the first one to do something, to plan a surprise, to give someone a gift or even to even make a call?
Just like any relationship, a friendship should also be two ways. If it’s always one-sided, then perhaps they do not really like having you around that much. Think again, observe.
4. You Don’t Trust Them
We’re pretty sure you can relate to this to a certain extent. Why do we still stay when we no longer trust someone? Especially when it’s a long term friendship, we will definitely find it harder to walk away. However, when you know you don’t trust them anymore, be it with their advice, or anything they do, it’s toxic to still stick around just to keep the friendship alive.
5. They’re Always Your Competition
Healthy competitions are encouraged. However, when you’re always finding yourself competing with your friends or vice versa, then it may be toxic.
Friends should support each other and be ready to root for your success. If they’re always going to try to be better than you, just show the world they can do better than you, it’s not a healthy competition anymore. Say no to jealousy!
It’s time to move away from anything unhealthy for your mind. We need not please everyone. Identify the signs and do something about it. We all deserve supportive friends around us.
