So, you just finished a workout and mentally run all the things you need to do as soon as you hop off the treadmill. Cool down? Who has the time?!

Little did you know that working out isn’t the only thing that keeps your body healthy… The post workout routine is also important to make sure you don’t hurt yourself after working out, especially an intense one!
Here are some post-workout routines that you need to do after every workout, according to Healthy Women.
#1 Cooling Down

Stopping too suddenly after working out can cause you to feel lightheaded or dizzy.
Your body’s temperature rises when you’re working out, and your blood vessels widen, so your body needs time for its blood vessels to return to normal.
Take advantage of the cool-down setting on the treadmill, or after a run, slow down and walk for a few minutes.
#2 Do Some Stretching

Muscles stretch and lengthen best when they’re warm because they’re more elastic and pliable, especially after a workout.
As your muscles start to cool down, try stretching as it will help decrease soreness, it also accelerates your recovery process, and helps relax the tension from the workout.
#3 Keeping Yourself Hydrated
Drink up!

When you workout, your body loses water and we all know this! Replenishing your body’s water supply will help increase muscle flexibility and strength as well as decrease muscle soreness.
According to the American College of Sports Medicine, you should drink about two to three cups of water after you work out for every pound of weight you lost during the workout!
#4 Let Your Body Recover

Relax, don’t plan another workout until tomorrow!
If you don’t give your muscles time to recover, they won’t be able to heal and repair. Mix up your workouts so you’re using different muscles tomorrow or schedule a lighter workout.
#5 Take A Cool Shower And Change Your Clothes!
Duh, after all that sweating, you’re going to need a shower… and a long one!

Warm showers are great, but try taking a cool shower right after a workout. And no we don’t mean those ice baths like a pro athlete. Just adjust the shower’s temperature to lower than you typically do.
A cool shower can increase the healing process and decrease muscle inflammation. Trust us, you’ll feel great the next day! Also, remember to remove any wet clothes, like pants or socks as soggy workout clothes can trap moisture, promoting growth of yeast, fungus and bacteria. Even if you’re in a hurry to leave the gym, bring an extra set of clothes!
Hope this helps!
