Green Peace With Greenpeace Malaysia

Sustainability and green-living has been picking up traction over the past few years, but just how informed are we about it?

Greenpeace Malaysia decided to do something about it and organised the MAKE SMTHNG Weekend in light of the #ReuseRevolution. This year marks the second instalment of the event, and saw an array of activities going on.

Hosted at RUANG in Subang SS18, we were greeted by the scent of food upon stepping through the doors. A quick glance revealed where the smell was coming from - Rohingyan refugees were selling some nibbles alongside a bunch of handmade jewellery. It was quite a struggle to avoid buying the vibrantly coloured earrings, honestly.

We also got there just in time to see some workshops in action. One was a scrapbooking workshop, where participants learned to create art out of nothing. Making use of recycled material, they made pretty journals - the same sort some people pay plenty of money to buy! There was also a scented candle workshop, where we were taught how to create our very own scented candles out of used cooking oil. Instead of throwing away the oil and contributing further to environmental waste, why not make something that would make your home smell better, right?

Vendors from @simplestepsbykim (on Instagram) were also on-site, selling sustainable household products. The best part? Their products are pretty affordable! Where regular vendors usually sell eco-friendly items at exorbitant prices, Kim strives to make these products easily accessible to all. From bamboo toothbrushes to soaps and reusable menstrual pads, we almost bought the whole store.

The event will be back next year, so keep your eyes peeled for updates!
