As our daily COVID-19 numbers continue to fluctuate, we’re sure you’d want to be certain if a certain place you’re going to is coronavirus-free, right?

Well, with Google Maps, now you can!

Introducing the new COVID layer in Maps - a tool that shows critical information about COVID-19 cases in an area, so you can make more informed decisions about where you want to go and what you want to do.

Here’s how it works:

  1. When you open Google Maps, tap on the layers button on the top right hand corner of your screen and click on “COVID-19 info”.
  2. You’ll then see a seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people for the area of the map you’re looking at, as well as a label that indicates whether the cases are trending up or down.
  3. Color coding also helps you easily distinguish the density of new cases in an area.

Trending case data is visible at the country level for all 220 countries and territories that Google Maps supports, along with state or province, county, and city-level data where available.

Now, whether or not the situation improves, we still need to embrace the new normal and continue to follow SOPs.

And we hope that these Google Maps features will help you get where you need to be as safely and efficiently as possible.

Stay safe, guys!
