The ocean plastic pollution is reaching an unprecedented level with an estimated 300 million tons of plastic in the ocean. Luckily, Seven Clean Seas is hosting a Big Beach Cleanup in Malaysia!

The beach cleanup will be held on the 22nd of February at Remis Beach, Jeram Selangor. The event is focused on making volunteering fun as it’ll be a great way for families, kids, adults, basically, everyone all ages, to enjoy caring for the environment. The exact location and how to register can be found on the Seven Clean Seas Facebook Events Page.

This is not the first time the social enterprise has hosted such an event. According to Tom Peacock-Nazil, founder of Seven Clean Seas, they started running volunteer beach clean-up events in Singapore and the response was just incredible.

“To date, we have removed over 50,000 kilograms of plastic pollution from local coastlines. We want to start doing regular cleanups in Malaysia,” he said

It is estimated that for this year alone, roughly 12.7 million metric tons of plastic will end up in the oceans, which is equivalent to a full garbage truck worth of plastic entering into the oceans every minute!

Plastics in the ocean will not only pollute the environment but also endanger, entangles and destroys marine, bird and coral life.

Seven Seas encourages everyone to come join them in their effort to save the oceans from plastics. However, if you can’t make it, you can still contribute in their fund-raising efforts.

Seven Clean Seas if selling bracelets and for every bracelet sold, they promise to remove 1 kg of plastic pollution from the oceans.

“Our Seven Clean Seas bracelet sales generate funding to scale up our ocean cleanup operations. It will allow us to employ full time staff, hold more beach clean-up events and work internationally to combat the global ocean plastic pollution problem,” said Nazli.

We can’t wait to join the Big Beach Cleanup! How about you?
