In case you missed it, a wild boar wandered into the Alamanda shopping complex in Putrajaya on Sunday afternoon (December 6th), in what was a very random situation that you may or may not ever experience in your life.
But in the event that you do encounter a wild boar sometime, here’s what you should know…

Wild boars have had an increase in population in recent years, as there has been a lack of natural predators, which is why it shouldn’t be a surprise that there will be instances when one may stray into parks, public roads, residential areas, or even malls!
They may look shy, but they’re still wild animals with an unpredictable behaviour, and are strong animals that can run relatively fast.
But like many other wild animals, wild boars will only attack if they are cornered or if they feel threatened.
So what do you do if you encounter wild boars?
- Be calm and move slowly away from the animal. Do not approach or attempt to feed the animal.
- Keep a safe distance and do not corner or provoke the animal i.e. by using a flash while taking pictures of it.
- If you see adults with young piglets, leave them alone. These are potentially more dangerous because they may attempt to defend their young.
Let’s hope you wouldn’t have to!
