The Malaysian government has imposed a 14-day Movement Control Order from the 18th to the 31st March to control the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. During this time, all business premises (except essential services) will be closed.

But what if your car needs servicing or what if you need to replace old and worn out pieces of car parts? Don't fret! Here are four tips on what you can do during this self-quarantine period.

1. Sufficient Engine Oil

Check and make sure your engine oil is between the minimum and maximum indicator on the oil stick from time to time. If it is at the minimum line or below, top it up with appropriate engine oil.

2. It’s okay to exceed the kilometres

Don’t worry about the warranty if you have exceeded the maintenance intervals. If your car is supposed to be serviced between the 18th to the 31st of March, don't worry! You may still use your vehicle even if it exceeds the stipulated service intervals. An allowance of 1000 to 2000 kilometres of the mileage is acceptable when you take your car for servicing.

3. Limit movement or usage of your car

Try to avoid driving long distances right now. This will ensure that you will not experience a breakdown in the middle of nowhere with no assistance. Also, stop using the vehicle if the warning light appears or if there are any fluid leaking and discolouration of the coolant.

4. Avoid carrying heavy loads

Trying to avoid holding the fuel pump nozzles at petrol stations? Higher loads mean your vehicle will use more power to move. So, remember to remove unnecessary items that are heavy from your car if you’re driving from point A to point B, it does actually make a difference.

Remember to follow these four tips during this restricted movement order. Stay safe!
