As of Friday (3 March), 31,865 people had been forced to evacuate to flood relief centers in the southern state of Johor, which remains to be the worst hit state, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
However, in times of need, Malaysians have always banded together to do whatever they can to help each other.
Recently, a video went viral of a man, known as Abang Salleh, seen risking his own safety to make sure that food supplies for the flood victims safely arrived at a temporary flood relief center at a school in Johor.
In the video, shared by TikTok user @zurainiswarno shows Abang Salleh clinging onto a rope while battling the strong current in an effort to deliver the supplies. He was also seen struggling to move as the floodwaters slammed against his body.
“Unsung hero” the caption reads.
Several flood victims were also seen trying to help Abang Salleh by holding the rope steady at both ends while passing him packs of food that was supposed to be delivered to the temporary relief shelter at the school.
Though he didn’t manage to cross to the other side due to the strong current and deliver the food, his bravery and willingness to risk his own safety for others is worth highlighting!
The video has since garnered over 1.9 million views at the time of writing.
Many took to the comment section to praise Abang Salleh for his bravery, “Dear God, I pray that you give this man strength. I pray that you ease their struggles,” one person commented.
“Dangerous, but your bravery inspires me. Not everyone has your courage Abang Salleh, so thank you for trying!”
You are so brave, Abang Salleh! Thank you so much for your effort!
Please stay safe, Malaysians, and if you ever need help, do not hesitate to call for help!
Stay safe!
