Malaysian badminton ace Lee Zii Jia secured a 21-19, 21-15, win over Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in the second round to continue his march with a new-found confidence.
He now ranks fourth in the world and is scheduled to meet Taiwan’s Chia Hao Lee in the quarter-finals tonight (24 March).
Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages to Zii Jia over his victory. Malaysians also wished the 24-year-old the best in his upcoming matches and conveyed a similar “You make Malaysia proud!” message in their comments.
One user, @craigansibin, posted a tweet saying, “Don’t ever doubt yourself, Lee Zii Jia!”
Another user, @everysza, praised the shuttler with, “Zii Jia is hot. But THIS Lee Zii Jia hits differently. It’s the hair, the red game kit, the smug face, the fiery confidence, just everything makes him look like a King!”
@nyominyoms tweeted: “Lee Zii Jia proved to us again, he can beat anyone when he is at his best. Not just pure luck. His hard work. He is done losing!”
