“I Was Shaking!” Netizens Praise M’sian Chinese Man Trying Fasting For The First Time!

Have you tried fasting before?

Ramadan is the Muslim holy month, which means there’s a good chance you, or a friend, a coworker, or a neighbour will be celebrating, fasting and doing all sorts of other activities that are unique to the holy month.

However, non-Muslims can also try fasting, and it’s not the first time it has been done, especially for Malaysians since we all live in a multicultural country, some of our non-Muslim friends have tried fasting before, too!

One Malaysian actor, Ooi Liang Chia recently tried fasting, though he was able to make it through the whole day, he said that it was his first and last time trying.

“Those who are able to fast for a whole month, I’m impressed…” he said in his TikTok video that has since gone viral.

In the video, Ooi started off by waking up at 5:08 am for sahur and recorded everything in an attempt to document his fasting journey, “I don’t really cook, so I just had whatever I bought yesterday and had some water with it.”

Ooi went on with his day with work and attended some classes, but he had to cancel his badminton session with his friends because he wanted to go to the Ramadan bazaar.

He then sat in his car and the time was around 6:52 pm and there was about 30 minutes left before berbuka time, and Ooi said that his whole body was shaking at that point. He said he felt so hungry that he almost gave up.

To make himself feel a little better, Ooi took a nap inside his car before driving home.

“That 30 minutes felt like a year, but I got through it.”

And finally at 7:26 pm, he got to break his fast with the delicious food he got at the Ramadan bazaar. What a champ!

“I will never forget my first time experiencing fasting. I was shaking in my car. Do you need to eat a proper meal during sahur to go through the day?

“Salute to all my Muslim gang!” he wrote in his caption.

Netizens took to the comment section to congratulate him for trying, “Congratulations! If it’s your first time, I would recommend you to do half day only!”

“If you want to try again, try having some rice, oats or pasta for sahur. Carbs do help you to stay full longer…” another person commented.

It’s not easy, but he got through it. Well done, Ooi!
