In a heartwarming turn of events, a young girl's wish for a better playground in her neighborhood became a reality. 10-year-old K Joanna Kristina took it upon herself to write a heartfelt letter to the Penang Menteri Besar (MB) expressing her desire to see an upgrade for the playground in Taman Chai Leng, Seberang Jaya.

Little did she know that her plea would touch the hearts of many and lead to a remarkable transformation…
Today, on the 28th of June, the Penang MB, Chow Kon Yeow, joyfully announced that the state government had fulfilled Joanna's wish. In an uplifting Facebook post, he shared the news that the caretaker state government was thrilled to be able to bring a much-needed upgrade to the playground.
In her one-page letter addressed to Chow and his deputy, P. Ramasamy, Joanna expressed her disappointment with the current state of the playground, explaining that her mother did not allow her to play there because she believed it wasn't child-friendly.
Joanna highlighted the issues of littering, broken benches, and the need for tree trimming to ensure safety. She also wished for proper lighting like the colorful lights at Peacock Park, as the playground was dark at night.
With an invitation to visit the playground and a grateful "thank you," Joanna's letter captured the attention of the MB and his deputy. Dated 11th February 2023, it took merely four months for Joanna's dream to be realized.
In a heartwarming gesture, Chow and Ramasamy personally visited Joanna at the playground today to commemorate the completion of the upgrade work. The state government's bi-weekly publication, Buletin Mutiara, reported that both the playground and the basketball court had undergone extensive refurbishment and were now ready for the residents to enjoy.
Chow took the opportunity to commend Joanna for her bravery in speaking up and emphasized the importance of children expressing their thoughts. "This is something to be emulated, as when you have the courage to ask for something, you will be able to receive it," he expressed.
He hoped that Joanna's story would inspire other children to voice their concerns or suggestions, whether at school, home, or through letters to their local representatives.
Furthermore, Chow extended his gratitude to the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) for their swift action in upgrading the playground. Their dedication and commitment played a significant role in making Joanna's dream come true.
