Remember the days when Flappy Bird was all anyone could talk about? The addictive little game, with its simple yet maddeningly difficult gameplay, took the world by storm back in 2013.
Now, after more than a decade, the iconic game is preparing to make a comeback, thanks to a new team eager to rekindle that initial magic.
The Flappy Bird Foundation, a group dedicated to reviving classic gaming experiences, has acquired the rights to Flappy Bird and announced a relaunch. Fans can expect to see the game return to the web this October, with iOS and Android versions planned for release in 2025.

However, this reboot is set to offer a fresh take on the beloved original. While the familiar yellow bird and its challenging pipe-dodging antics are back, the game has evolved. Expect new characters, additional levels, and a world map hinting at a storyline mode. New gameplay features will include guiding the bird through basketball hoops, adding a new twist to the classic formula.
One of the most exciting additions is Flappy Bird Rivals, an online mode where players can compete against up to 99 others in real time. This competitive element promises to add a new layer of excitement to the game.
But it's not all smooth flying—this new version will introduce microtransactions, a stark departure from the original’s free-to-play model.
Flappy Bird, created by Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen, became a global phenomenon shortly after its 2013 launch, earning tens of thousands of dollars in ad revenue daily. Yet the game’s overwhelming popularity proved too much for Nguyen, who removed it from app stores in early 2014, citing concerns about its addictive nature.
Despite numerous clones, none managed to capture the essence of the original.
Now, with a new team at the controls, the question remains: will this reboot manage to recapture the enchantment of the original? We'll find out when the game hits the web this October.
