Is there any Malaysian who has not heard of Tan Sri P. Ramlee? The multi-talented director, actor, singer, composer and producer (among other things) is an icon in the entertainment industry, and unbeknownst to some, his artsiness was reflected in his handwriting.

In a Facebook post by Rosli Mohd Nordin, he shared some shots of a letter handwritten by the Seniman Agung himself. In the letter, P. Ramlee was replying to an invitation to perform with others at the King’s Studio in Petaling Jaya.

These photos were part of “Gemilang 50 Tahun Orkestra RTM”, a coffee table book that was edited and coordinated by Rosli. The book was published in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Orkestra RTM in 2011.
Rosli expressed admiration for the icon’s beautiful handwriting and added that some of the challenges he faced as the editor, concept consultant, and coordinator of the book was in finding photos that fit the book. Having to check and amend facts was also another problem he had to overcome - sure feels like plenty of reading to do!
