It’s about time! Whatsapp is finally testing its dark mode in its latest beta release!

The instant messaging service will be featuring three options for users to choose from; Dark, Light and System Default.

According to TechRadar, you will first need to sign up for the beta program through the Google Play Store to get WhatsApp dark mode.

For Android users, you would first need to check which version of Whatsapp you currently have on your phone. Select 'App info', then select 'Advanced' and scroll down to the version number, to see whether it is at least version 2.20.13.

If you currently have an earlier version, open WhatsApp in the Google Play Store and press the 'Update' button to get the latest beta release.

After your Whatsapp is updated, you can then go to settings, Chats and select Theme to choose the options available.

Unfortunately, the update is only currently available for Android users as the beta program for iOS is currently full.

Android Police however reports that the dark mode won’t be as similar to the ones we see on other social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. The dark mode is more of a "paint job" that is less straining for the eyes.

We’re excited that Whatsapp is going dark soon! What about you?
