Even the pandas are so lucky to meet our King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah!

His Majesty arrived at Zoo Negara at 9.40 am, welcomed by Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Datuk Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim and the National Zoo’s president Datuk Sr. Zaharin Md Arif.
YDP Agong started his visit by watching an animal show at the amphitheatre, followed by a presentation ceremony of mock cheques to Zoo Negara from several local companies.
KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah berkenan berangkat melawat Zoo Negara di Hulu Kelang, Selangor. Seri Paduka Baginda yang berangkat tiba di Zoo Negara pada jam 9.40 pagi, meluangkan masa lebih dua jam bagi menyaksikan pertunjukan haiwan serta melihat persekitaran kawasan pameran Zoo Negara. Ketibaan Al-Sultan Abdullah disambut Menteri Tenaga dan Sumber Asli, Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah; Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Perlindungan Hidupan Liar dan Taman Negara Semenanjung Malaysia (PERHILITAN), Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim dan Presiden Zoo Negara, Datuk Sr Zaharin Md Arif. Al-Sultan Abdullah memulakan lawatan dengan menyaksikan pertunjukan haiwan di Show Amphitheatre diikuti majlis penyampaian sumbangan replika cek daripada beberapa syarikat tempatan kepada Zoo Negara. Al-Sultan Abdullah turut berkenan melawat beberapa kawasan pameran dan memberi makanan kepada haiwan seperti burung upeh (stork) dan zirafah. Menaiki tram mengunjungi kawasan pameran, Seri Paduka Baginda turut berkenan melihat haiwan lain seperti rusa, singa, Harimau Malaya dan Orang Utan. Sebelum mengakhiri lawatan, Seri Paduka Baginda ke Pusat Konservasi Giant Panda dan memberi makan kepada dua ekor beruang panda gergasi yang dipinjamkan oleh kerajaan China pada 2014 menerusi Program Perjanjian Bersama Konservasi Antarabangsa Panda Gergasi. Seri Paduka Baginda menyeru rakyat Malaysia meluangkan masa melawat pusat-pusat pelancongan dan rekreasi tempatan dengan mematuhi prosedur operasi standard yang telah ditetapkan di tempat-tempat tersebut.

According to the New Straits Times, Zoo Negara received RM200,000 from FoodPanda for its giant pandas, RM123,084 from 99 Speed Mart Sdn. Bhd. for two hippopotami; RM65,000 from Sime Darby Oils Sdn Bhd for two Sumatran Orangutans and two Malayan tigers, and OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad sponsoring RM40,000 for a Malayan tapir.
Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed his appreciation for the contributions and called on other local companies, especially government-owned multinationals, to help out the country’s National Zoo to cover their daily expenses.
His Majesty also visited several animal enclosures including giraffes, deers, lions, Malayan tigers, and orangutans.
