She Lost Interest When He Said He Took E-Hailing to Their Date, Netizens Are Debating!

First dates can be nerve-wracking.

You want to look your best, make a good impression, and hope things just click. But for one Malaysian man, his first date took an unexpected turn the moment his mode of transport came up in conversation.

Sharing his story on Threads, the man said he had gone out with a woman in her 40s last month at a restaurant in KLCC. Everything started off well, with good food, easy conversation, and plenty of laughter. But the mood quickly changed once they stepped out of the restaurant and she asked where he had parked his car.

“I told her the truth. I didn’t drive, I took an e-hailing ride because my condo is near KLCC,” he wrote.

That was when things took a turn. According to him, her facial expression immediately changed, and her tone went from warm to cold, “She suddenly became distant after that. Later on, when we were texting, she even made a sarcastic comment, something like, ‘Looks alone won’t get you anywhere these days, you need money.’”

Feeling insulted, the man decided to block her number altogether. “Do I really need to bring bank statements to a date now?” he joked, though clearly disappointed by the experience.

His post has since sparked discussion online, with many people debating whether having a car still plays a role in how some Malaysians perceive financial stability or attractiveness.

Dating in Malaysia, it seems, can sometimes come with surprises you do not see coming, whether it is your ride, your wallet, or your date’s entire family.
