Uncle Kentang Extends a Helping Hand to Students Struggling After TAR UMT Tragedy

During the Movement Control Order (MCO), many Malaysians came to know Uncle Kentang, or Kuan Chee Heng, for his tireless efforts to support communities in need. From providing food to struggling families to offering emergency aid, he became a symbol of kindness and compassion in challenging times.

Now, Uncle Kentang has once again stepped forward, this time to address a matter that has left him deeply troubled: the recent tragedies involving students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management & Technology (TAR UMT).

Through a heartfelt video shared on his Facebook page, he urged students not to lose hope, no matter the struggles they face. He emphasised that he is ready to listen, guide and assist those who may feel weighed down by academic pressures, financial worries, or family problems.

“I am your companion. Although I may be older, if you ever face problems with your studies, family, or finances, you can always reach out to me,” he reassured.

Uncle Kentang also reminded students that setbacks are not the end of the road. He encouraged them to see failure in exams as a chance to try again, while assuring them that practical help is available. He even offered transportation for students who need to get to class and financial aid for those who may need to retake their exams.

Beyond academic concerns, his words touched on the sacrifices of parents. “From the moment you were in your mother’s womb, she carefully protected you. She endured months of hardship to bring you into this world. Please don’t end your life so easily. Give your parents a chance, and give yourself a chance too.”

He closed his message with a gentle reminder: life should not be seen as a race to the finish line, but as a journey taken one step at a time. And for anyone who may be struggling, remember that it is okay to ask for help. Please, never hurt yourself.
