SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu recently joined a popular TikTok trend, sharing a creative and heartfelt video through the group’s official TikTok and his own Instagram account.
The trend, which originated from a TikTok audio by user @steeerling in 2019, involves users humorously introducing themselves by comparing their looks to “celebrity parents.” Mingyu, however, took a more genuine approach. Instead of using celebrity lookalikes, he posted old photos of his real parents, followed by childhood and present-day pictures of himself.
The video quickly went viral, racking up 5.8 million views on TikTok and 30.4 million on Instagram at the time of writing.
Many fans were surprised when they realised the video came from the official accounts, with some initially mistaking it for a fan edit. CARATs were also buzzing over Mingyu’s father, noting a striking resemblance—not to Mingyu—but to his fellow SEVENTEEN member, DK. This led fans to playfully speculate whether the two could be long-lost relatives!
Despite the fun comparisons, one thing is certain: Mingyu has inherited features from both of his parents, making the resemblance undeniable.
As of today, SEVENTEEN’s account has removed the collaboration with Mingyu. But that’s alright—you can still catch the video on Mingyu’s Instagram page, where it has accumulated over 33 million views as of writing.
