The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) announced the birth of a new female baby Tapir at its Wildlife Conservation Centre in Sungai Dusun.

The baby’s mommy and daddy are residents at the conservation center as well - a male Tapir named Boy and a female named Mala.
The newborn Tapir, who has yet to be named was born on Monday (March 21st) and weighs about 8.85kg. And it’s adorable, like… we can’t stop looking at its pictures!

Another post, shared by PERHILITAN on their Facebook page on Thursday (March 24th) shows the little one trying to walk with the help of the on-duty wildlife conservationist officer. It’s the cutest video you’ll ever see… EVER!
Cute, right?!
In case you don’t know, Malayan tapirs are mostly found in Peninsular Malaysia, southern Thailand, and southern Myanmar (Burma), as well as on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
Their habitat consists of rainforests and lower montane forests.
The Malayan tapir was first listed as endangered in 1986, due to an ongoing decline from loss of habitat, fragmentation of its remaining habitat, and increased hunting pressure. Population declines are estimated to be greater than 50% in the past 36 years, mainly due to habitat loss and hunting.
Very sad! So, guys, the only way we can help save the tapirs is to take care of our environment, and spread awareness!
