One such promoter of Malaysian cuisine is the Chinese foodie EatAi亦太(HalalFoodie), who recently highlighted Chef Shah and his Shanghai eatery, One Coconut One Rice, on TikTok.
EatAi亦太 praised the establishment, writing, “The best Nasi Lemak in Shanghai, China. My friend, Chef Shah, a Malaysian who’s promoting Nasi Lemak and Teh Tarik in China.”
In a video conversation, EatAi亦太(HalalFoodie)spoke in Malay with Chef Shah, who responded in both Mandarin and Malay, sharing insights about his culinary journey in China. When asked how long he has been in China, Chef Shah replied, “15 years.”
Chef Shah then gave a tour of his kitchen, where he and his younger brother prepare Nasi Lemak with various side dishes, all made from Halal ingredients. He proudly mentioned, “In one day, including delivery, I can sell almost 400 plus Nasi Lemak.” According to Chef Shah, the people of Shanghai have developed a taste for this Malaysian staple.
