First dates are supposed to be about good conversation, chemistry, and maybe even a spark, but for one Malaysian man, it almost turned into a RM2,000 lesson about trust.

According to his viral post, the man had connected with a woman on WeChat and agreed to take her out after work. Strangely, when he picked her up, she did not come from the workplace she claimed to be employed at. Instead, she appeared from a spot nearby. She also mentioned beforehand that she was starving, so he agreed to bring her food.

When he suggested some nearby eateries, she brushed off his ideas and insisted on a specific café in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Playing along, he drove her there.

Once seated, the man kept it simple, ordering only nasi lemak (RM6.90) and a can of 100 Plus (RM3.50). The woman, however, went all out. She began with snacks, including five tiny scallops priced at RM157.90. Since they ordered individually through QR code, he had no clue what else she was adding to the bill.

Things escalated quickly when she ordered a 200g A5 Wagyu steak worth RM383.90, and another 600g set of Japan A5 Wagyu costing RM859, which she claimed was “to take home for her family.” To top it off, she ordered two glasses of lemon drink for herself, at RM157.60.

After the meal, the woman excused herself, saying she had something to attend to, and disappeared. When the bill arrived, the man was stunned to see the total climbing past RM2,000.

To make things worse, he noticed café staff loitering outside, as if keeping watch to ensure he didn’t leave without paying. When he mentioned calling the police, they oddly insisted he contact a particular station, making him suspect the setup was prearranged. Refusing to comply, he dialled 999 on the spot. At that moment, the woman suddenly reappeared, claiming she had forgotten something.

In the end, he stood firm and only paid for his own meal, plus a small portion of the snacks she told him to share, which came to RM414.45.
