M’sian Swimmer Welson Sim Goes Viral In China, Dubbed As The Sunshine Boy Because Of His Bright Smile

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is well underway and while Malaysians are rooting for national swimmer, Welson Sim from home, citizens in China admitted that his bright smile won their hearts instead!

Before competing in the 200m and 400m freestyle events on the 24th and 25th of July, Welson briefly appeared on everyone's television screens during the opening ceremony.

Yup, it only took him two-seconds for the Malaysian Olympic swimmer to steal the hearts of the Chinese watching the coverage of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The young athlete from Sarawak even has a dedicated channel for him on the social media platform, Weibo. 

Welson’s photos even garnered a few compliments and flattering comments in the channel from netizens in China. 

One person even admitted that they had “fallen in love” with the 24-year-old athlete since they saw him in the opening ceremony ...and you can’t even see his full face because he was wearing a face mask.
