Though the Movement Control Order (MCO) is unavoidable and essential to make sure that we control the spread of the COVID-19 disease, some people are forced to take cuti from their jobs which means they won’t be able to afford food for themselves.

A group of devotees from Gurdwara Sahib Subang in SS13 opened its doors to the people in need by preparing healthy meals during the two-week period of the MCO.

A Facebook post by SJ Echo said that the devotees run the food preparation of meals and deliver them to the needy communities from ALL races within the Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya area.

According to the Malay Mail, the Gurdwara has a simple method to determine a person’s eligibility to receive the free food - through a simple phone interview!

Its coordinator of this food initiative programme, Amanjeet Singh said, the initiative came about after a youngster told the gurdwara members about helping the needy communities, “The committee then set-up this initiative, more volunteers came into the scene, and we began receiving an overwhelming response of food orders from members of the community.”

Since then they have been servicing the elderly and disabled who are unable to buy themselves meals.

Three chefs are responsible for cooking all the meals that consist of chapati, rice, a vegetable dish, and dhal.

Many people have generously contributed to this initiative. “The meals are prepared at about 10 am in the morning, and are delivered to the doorsteps of the recipients from 12 pm to 12.30 pm by our volunteers,” he said.

Truly an inspiration. Thank you!
