Khairy Jamaluddin Suffers Injuries After Run-In With Pothole While Cycling

Oh dear, we’re glad that it’s nothing serious!

On Sunday (27 December), Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin recently  shared pictures of his cuts and bruises on social media after a run-in with a pothole and a ditch while cycling at the Kampung Seri Cheeding area in Banting.

His caption reads: “Pothole, ditch, KJ. 2020 keeps giving.”

In the tweet, he included a picture of the pothole and of himself with bruises covering his face, which looked pretty bad.

But fortunately, KJ’s press secretary, Syahrir Bakar tweeted that the minister is okay and, just “A little bruised up but all is good.”

The tweet has since gained over 3,000 reactions from netizens, who also remarked that potholes are commonly found on Malaysian roads everywhere and urged the minister to get the relevant authorities to look into the matter.

Some even shared pictures of their injuries from similar incidents.

The Public Works Department (JKR) Kuala Langat wrote an apology in the replies saying, “JKR Kuala Langat would like to apologise for what has happened to you, YB. We will look into this matter and we wish you a speedy recovery.”

According to the Malay Mail, roads in Malaysia’s capital city and many places nationwide are pockmarked with potholes and are often the subject of ire for all road users and pedestrians.

Back in October, the public had even called for the government to focus on road repairs instead of renaming the roads.

We’re glad that KJ is okay!

Please be careful when you’re on the road, guys. And if you are cycling, remember to wear a helmet and make sure that you are seen by other road users.
