Zero Two Nasi Kandar Tokyo was recently opened by a Japanese man named Tateda, who visited Malaysia and fell in love with nasi kandar.

According to Japanese Heart, Tateda claimed to have owned a South Indian restaurant in Osaka and frequently traveled to India. During a trip to Malaysia, Tateda sampled a curry nasi kandar dish and discovered that it tasted nothing like the other foods he had before.
On February 1st, Tateda decided to open a nasi kandar restaurant in Tokyo, and the place has been so popular ever since - and the foods are always sold out. Wow!
Tateda had to even apologize to his customers when they sold out on the opening day. They even explained on their Instagram that the food sells out fast so for those who want to try the dishes, they have to come early.
His team also worked hard to give the restaurant a “Malaysian feel” for their Japanese customers. To give it the authentic Malaysian experience, the restaurant is decorated with wall paintings and ‘Terima Kasih’ signage, as well as neon lights at the entrance.
There are many types of curries and side dishes to choose from including lamb cutlets, stir-fried cabbage, prawns, fried chicken and more. And they’re halal as well!
Customers can also choose if they want plain nasi putih or nasi biryani, just like other nasi kandar restaurants in Malaysia. After that, customers can choose their vegetables, curry and meat.
Prices range from JPY1,000 (RM35.40) to JPY1,980 (RM72). Ok, that’s a bit over the top for nasi kandar, but if you’re in Japan and you miss some Malaysian mamak nasi kandar, well this might be the place you can visit!
The food does look good, so we think we have our dinner sorted tonight. Mamak food it is!
