For seven years, Yoshitaka had no idea how old the woman he loved truly was. As they prepared to say their vows, the truth finally came out, proving that sometimes, age really is just a number.

Yoshitaka, a 40-year-old man from Japan, met Aki at the Japanese-style bar she owned. Both had been through divorces, were raising children on their own, and shared a deep connection from the start. But there was one detail Aki kept hidden: her real age.
"When we first met, I felt an instant bond," Yoshitaka shared. "We connected over our similar life experiences—failed marriages and the challenges of single parenthood,” as quoted by SCMP.
From the beginning, Aki told Yoshitaka she was 15 years older than him, a difference he easily accepted. Yet, she feared that if he knew the truth, it might change how he felt about her. Despite her fears, Aki tried to drop hints.
"I left my passport and insurance card out, hoping he’d notice," Aki said with a smile.
But Yoshitaka never picked up on the clues. On the eve of their wedding, Aki decided it was time to reveal her secret. She wasn’t just 15 years older—she was actually 25 years his senior, making her 65 years old.
To Aki’s surprise, Yoshitaka wasn’t fazed. Instead, he was more concerned that she had been worrying about it all this time. The couple went on to get married and have enjoyed a happy life together ever since.
"Age doesn’t matter to me," Yoshitaka reassured her. "What matters is the love we share and the life we’ve built together. I love you for who you are, not how old you are."
In their story, Yoshitaka and Aki remind us that sometimes, love transcends age. What truly counts is the connection between two people, not the numbers on a birth certificate.
