Indian Woman Surprises Elderly Neighbour Living Alone with Baju Kurung and Duit Raya

What makes Malaysia truly special is our unity as a multiracial country.

We care deeply for one another, embracing and respecting each other's cultures — so much so that we celebrate festivities together, regardless of our backgrounds. This spirit of togetherness shines even brighter during meaningful occasions like Hari Raya.

While many were busy celebrating Hari Raya with joy and laughter, some observed the occasion more modestly. There are also those who, due to personal circumstances, were unable to celebrate it as fully as others — such as individuals who have lost their loved ones.

Recently, a heartwarming moment captured the attention of Malaysians when a video went viral, showing an Indian woman sharing her blessings with an elderly lady in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In a video posted on TikTok by @priyangka_.01, the young woman is seen gifting a baju kurung and an assortment of traditional treats to an elderly woman believed to be living alone in a kampung in Kluang, Johor.

Her thoughtful gesture brought a spark of joy to the elderly woman, who was visibly touched by the surprise visit and gifts. It is understood that the senior citizen has been living by herself, with no knowledge of the whereabouts of her children.

“She lives alone; no one knows where her children have gone. I felt sorry seeing her all by herself at home,” said the young woman warmly, “Nenek, I love you. Here’s some duit raya, and don’t forget to wear your new outfit,” she added with affection.

It is moments like these that remind us of the kindness and compassion that bind Malaysians together, regardless of race or religion.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to this wonderful young woman for her beautiful act of kindness and wish her nothing but the best in life.

And if it's not too late — Selamat Hari Raya to all Malaysians!
