While netizens are wrapped up over an apology made by one former Miss Universe Malaysia, there’s one more person that they demanded an apology from…Fizi from Upin Ipin!
Recently, a clip from the popular animated series went viral and somehow sparked outrage amongst netizens not only in Malaysia but also in Indonesia.
In the clip, the characters from the cartoon, Upin, Ipin and Fizi were seen to be impressed with their friend, Mail, who was explaining to them how he needed to help his mother prepare for Hari Raya.
When asked why Mail was so dedicated to helping his mother, Mail replied, “of course, because heaven is underneath our mother’s feet”, a popular phrase often heard amongst the Muslim Malay community.
It was made known in the series that Upin and Ipin had lost both of their parents, so when Fizi unknowingly blurted out how they will not be getting into heaven because they are orphans, many were horrified!
The clip was first shared by an Indonesian private television station network, MNCTV, on its official Twitter account and has since garnered more than 4 million views!
The tweet was then shared by Twitter user jae (@awmork) and went viral with more than 60,000 retweets and netizens both from Malaysia and Indonesia, coming after Fizi, demanding an apology!
While Fizi may be like that one friend of ours who just couldn’t read a room, the animators of the series, Les' Copaque, finally posted an apology video made by poor old Fizi.
Fizi apologized to both Upin and Ipin and begged netizens to stop scolding him as it was an honest mistake. As Fizi frantically cried, Upin and Ipin quickly comforted their dear friend, forgiving him and saying that they are friends forever.
Now that Fizi has apologized, we hope netizens can forgive Fizi too. After all, everyone makes mistakes!
