In a recent incident at a kopitiam in Kuchai Lama, a Malaysian individual, identified as 秦朝太子, shared an encounter on a Facebook group that left him puzzled.

It all began when he decided to order his drink to-go in a takeaway packet (known as ikat tepi), despite intending to dine in and having already been served his food.
According to his account, he clarified that he typically doesn't order a drink while dining at this kopitiam. However, on this particular occasion, enticed by the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun served with sambal, he opted to order a drink.
With friends, who were foreign workers unable to dine in, waiting for him, he aimed to have his meal quickly while carrying his drink to-go, allowing him to leave as soon after finishing.
Upon requesting a Chinese tea in a takeaway packet from a foreign waitress, he was taken aback by her response: “If you want, you can only drink here. If you want a takeaway drink, you cannot sit here anymore.”
Confused by this policy, he complied, swiftly packing up his food, taking his drink, and leaving the restaurant.

This encounter left him questioning the rationale behind such a rule. Given that he intended to dine in and had already ordered his meal, it seems reasonable that the staff member should have let him continue occupying his seat at the kopitiam.
