A Family Saved RM2,437 Worth Of Pennies In A Small Glass Cylinder

Ever heard the Malay phrase “sikit sikit, lama lama jadi bukit”? It means, if you are patient and consistent in something that you do, it will surely yield results, and here is a perfect example!

For 5 years, 21-year-old Nur Ain Amira and her family have been saving up every single penny into their makeshift “tabung”. The tabung is unlike any other (just to ensure that nobody can take money out of it) as it was made from a small glass cylinder!

The tabung was created by her father, 54-year-old, Md Anuar Nabijan, from using parts from their air-conditioner and were kept in a locked room in their home.

"All our family members including my siblings keep any leftover coins inside the tabung” Ain told Astro Gempak.

Their effort did not go to waste as one day, they could no longer put in any pennies inside the tabung as it was full!

"Thankfully after five years we were able to raise RM2,473 and everything was exchanged at the bank.”

Ain, who hails from Marang, Terengganu, added that the whole family was excited when it was time to break the tabung.

"It was difficult! My dad first used a hammer, but it had no effect. He then used a drill to cut it open, he even put on a helmet to avoid any fire sparks from the gas cylinder,” said Ain.

According to Ain, the family originally planned to use the money for a family vacation.

“We initially wanted to use the money for the whole family to go on a vacation but given the current constraints, we will save it for future use,"

Ain shared the family’s success story on Twitter and her tweet immediately caught the attention of netizens with more than 6,000 retweets!

It has also inspired others to share their stories on saving too!

Well done to Ain and her whole family! We hope they could still go on that family vacation once the pandemic is over.
