The World Health Organization has described the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as the “defining global health crisis of our time”.

Hours before the Restricted Movement Order comes into action, the Ministry of Health has announced that there are 120 new cases, with 95 cases linked to the Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling Tabligh gathering.

As of noon on 17 March, the total number of cases in the country has risen to 673.

It was also reported that there were two fatalities due to COVID-19. One of whom was in attendance at the Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling gathering, while the other was a 60-year-old man who had a history of chronic illnesses.

Meanwhile, 7 patients have recovered and have been fully discharged from the ward, bringing the tally of patients who have recovered to 49.

The Ministry of Health also emphasized that the Restricted Movement Order, which will be implemented from 18 March 2020 to 31 March 2020, is crucial for the country to counteract the rising cases of COVID-19.

It also urged Malaysians to follow the instructions stated.
