DG Hisham Warns That Cases Could Hit 8,000 In June If We Fail To Follow SOPs

Malaysia’s COVID-19 infectivity rate that was reported on Sunday (May 16th) is now at 1.05, with Terengganu recording the highest at 1.29.

Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said on his Twitter that Putrajaya took the second spot with 1.25, followed by Pahang and Perak recording 1.23 respectively while Kedah recorded 1.21.

Melaka and Penang recorded 1.18 respectively, followed by Johor at 1.15, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan at 1.14, while Kuala Lumpur recorded 1.08.

According to the Malay Mail, DG Hisham said the basic reproduction number for COVID-19 infections had risen to 1.14 on April 14th. 

While previously on April 10th, it was at 1.03, then 1.06 on April 11th, 1.07 on April 12th and 1.09 on April 13th. 

He also shared the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) latest modelling that forecast more than 8,000 new daily COVID-19 cases by June if Malaysians fail to follow the SOPs that have been implemented by the government.

Previously, the Health Ministry had predicted 5,000 daily COVID-19 cases a day by June if SOPs were not followed. 

This is not the time to be complacent. We’re all in this together!
