Top 5 Ridiculous Solutions To Prevent Getting The Coronavirus
Mar 20, 2020
It’s no understatement that the coronavirus pandemic is sending the world into a frenzy. And of course, there are people who are just waiting at the chance to take advantage of this situation, to spread fake news on what you can do to avoid contracting the deadly disease.
Just a quick look into Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and you’d probably see an array of posts prompting you to try some ridiculous ways to prevent COVID-19, but here are our Top 5 picks on the MOST ridiculous myths that you definitely SHOULD NOT believe…
1. Garlic

Yeah sure, garlic has plenty of health benefits, including improve cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure and even combat illnesses like the common cold, BUT NOT THE CORONAVIRUS!
There’s no scientific evidence that garlic prevents you from getting the coronavirus, but there’s no denying that garlic is a remedy in most cases you’re ill.
If you still have your doubts, keep in mind that The South China Morning Post previously reported a story of a woman who had to get treatment for a severely inflamed throat, after she consumed 1.5kg of raw garlic because of the myth.
2. Drinking water every 15 minutes

It’s highly likely that you saw an article going around, recommending you to do this to flush out any virus that might have entered your mouth.
NO! The corona virus is airborne, and while there’s only a slight chance it may go into your mouth, constantly drinking water isn’t going to help.
Again, there’s no science behind the idea that you can just wash a respiratory virus down into your stomach and kill it.
If only it were that easy eh?
Nevertheless, you should be drinking lots of water for good overall health.
3. Heat and avoiding cold beverages or desserts

“Eh, this one heaty very good leh.”
“Eh, don’t drink cold lah then you get sick!”
So Malaysian right?
Of course this made the Top 5!
There have been variations of this myth going around on social media - even one asking you to inhale hot air from a hair dryer to CURE COVID-19.
Another post, falsely attributed to UNICEF, claimed that drinking hot water and exposure to the sun will kill the virus, and also said you should avoid eating ice cream.
NOT TRUE!
Yes, the flu virus doesn't survive well outside the body in hot weather, but this new coronavirus isn’t exactly the same, and it’s unclear if heat has any impact on it at all.
Once the virus is in your body, there's no killing it - your body just has to fight it off.
4. Drinking bleach and snorting cocaine

Sure, why not? If you WANT to die!
Apart from the stereotypical solutions that the average person can come up with, this one is definitely out-of-the-box.
The idea probably came about from the fact that most hand sanitizers that are alcohol-based can kill the virus.
It’s true when you apply such products typically on your hands or as a surface disinfectant, but IT DOESN’T WORK THE SAME WAY CONSUMING IT!
Meanwhile, cocaine. Is there even a need to elaborate on this? Cocaine is a straight-up drug. So just, DON’T DO DRUGS!
Doing either of these idiotic things is just going to get you super high, or super sick, and you are STILL likely to get COVID-19.
If you’re struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, seek professional help.
5. Consuming cow dung and cow urine

No, you’re not going crazy. You read that correctly.
Several places in India have been administering this concoction as a “COVID-19” antidote, claiming that it will boost your immune system, hence killing the virus.
Cow urine has even been used as a disinfectant on surface areas.
This need not even be said, but of course, there’s no basis to this myth whatsoever.
It hasn’t been proven nor determined that cow dung or cow urine used in any way, either as a surface applicant or consumed orally, kills the virus.
So this myth, is obviously a load of bull$#!T, literally.
You still want to continue on your quest to find the solution to the coronavirus? Go right ahead!
But the truth is, the best way to avoid exposure to the virus, is by ACTUALLY doing the things health authorities are asking you to - practice social distancing, wash your hands regularly, and avoid touching your face, mouth, and eyes.
Remember, a little goes a long way…
