The Wearing Of Face Masks Is Here To Stay

Nov 24, 2021

The wearing of face masks remains an important SOP to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the country.

The Health Minister told Berita Harian it can reduce exposure to the virus - a fact backed by data and science.

As such, Khairy Jamaluddin says Malaysia will not emulate some European countries, which no longer require the wearing of face masks.

"Countries such as Germany and Austria are facing a fresh Covid-19 wave that is quite huge, which emerged due to the low vaccination rate and after COVID-19 prevention measures - such as wearing face masks - have been cast aside.”

“Malaysia will not do away with the (mask-wearing) SOP”, says Khairy.

WHO director for the 53-country Europe region, Dr Hans Kluge, was quoted as saying that rising COVID-19 cases was a "grave concern".

He blamed the relaxation of public health measures for rising infections in Europe.

Besides donning a face mask, always remember to practice physical distancing and minimize face-to-face contact.
