Heads Up, KL! Major Traffic Disruptions Expected Next Week Due to ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

If you’re heading into the heart of Kuala Lumpur next week, you might want to think twice before hitting the road without a solid plan.

A major regional event is rolling into town—and so are the roadblocks.

The 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be hosted at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from Tuesday, 8 July to Friday, 11 July, and traffic around the city is expected to feel the impact. But here’s the catch: disruptions may start as early as Monday, 7 July, as preparations get underway.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the Main Logistics Secretariat for ASEAN 2025, confirmed that roads within a 1km radius of KLCC, as well as major routes and highways leading into the city, will likely be affected.

Exact closure details and alternative routes will be released by the police soon, so keep an eye on official updates.

While this may be a bit of a hassle for daily commuters, Malaysia’s role in hosting this high-profile diplomatic meeting is an important one. The ministry has extended its apologies for any inconvenience and thanked the public in advance for their cooperation.

With that in mind, if you're planning to head into KL next week, check the news, map your route, and give yourself extra time to get around. A little planning now could save you a lot of frustration later.
