Malaysia is set to experience a spell of turbulent weather next week, with thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds expected to develop in the afternoons, particularly across Peninsular Malaysia.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has attributed these conditions to the monsoon transition phase, which encourages the formation of thunderstorm clouds due to shifting wind patterns.

Why Is This Happening?
Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, METMalaysia’s director-general, explained that weak and variable winds create favourable conditions for thunderstorms. He noted that recent afternoons have already exhibited signs of this developing weather pattern.
“Mornings typically start off clear and hot, but as the day progresses, increased convection activity fuels the formation of large cumulonimbus clouds,” he said.
“These clouds can bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and in some cases, even hail, waterspouts, or landspouts,” he added.
Stay Alert for Potential Hazards
With the risk of lightning, fallen trees, and damage to weak structures, METMalaysia urges the public to remain vigilant, particularly in areas prone to flash floods.
For the latest weather updates, Malaysians are encouraged to monitor METMalaysia’s official website, the myCuaca app, or its social media channels.
