Elderly folk involved in Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Programme (NIP) will be given the China-made Sinovac vaccine. Minister in-charge of the vaccination programme Khairy Jamaluddin has assured that it is safe to be administered to senior citizens. He says clinical trials have found that the Sinovac vaccine has 100% efficacy for severe coronavirus cases.
“The committee has reviewed the data and we have decided to use Sinovac for senior citizens based on Brazil trials and trial papers under review” he said. Khairy also clarified that both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines would be used in phase two of the Immunisation Programme which starts next week. Besides senior citizens, phase two will also involve persons with disabilities and those with comorbidities.
If you’re still skeptical about receiving the Sinovac vaccine, fret not, Khairy himself took the jab last month and he’s doing fine. He became the first Malaysian to receive the Sinovac jab against COVID-19.
So, have some faith in Science and get vaccinated against COVID-19!
